M.Tech (Master of Technology) - Solar Engineering

ABOUT SOLAR ENGINEERING Global warming is an issue of great interest. In the recent times, with more awareness about harmful effects of global warming, the issue is taken with great interest. There is in point of fact a massive belief that the use of fossil fuel is a contributing factor to the cause of global warming, which will ultimately result in the demise of the planet altogether. Probably the best part why solar energy is that it is a renewable source of energy, which basically means that it will stay there forever, it will be consumed for all practical human usages. Oil, Coal etc., is all bound to finish one day and eradicate from the face of the planet. So why not put them in the storage and use something more useful, is a basic question that many people have today. The Department of Solar Energy at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University(PDPU) conducts teaching and research in the technologies needed to harness and supply solar energy efficiently, on an economically sound basis. Preliminary research studies have been initiated, and laboratory development is in progress. The department operates in close collaboration with Solar Energy research wing of GERMI Research, Innovation & Incubation Centre (GRIIC). The Department also has a Centre of Excellence in Solar Energy under the name SOLAR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER (SRDC). During the maiden convocation of PDPU in May 2009, the Chief Guest, former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, spoke about the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector, with special reference to renewable sources of energy. He stressed the need for renewable energy to achieve energy independence and strengthen the rural economy, and urged students to play a leading role in fighting the energy crisis. Given the dangers of climate change caused by global warming, a cost-effective technique for harnessing and utilizing solar energy would be the greatest possible gift that scientists and engineers can bestow to mankind. Solar energy industry in India is at present in a nascent stage, but indications are that it will grow at a fast pace in the coming years. The recently announced National Solar Mission envisages that, by the year 2022, the country will generate 20,000 MW of solar energy, and will require 100,000 trained and specialized persons for R&D, engineering, and management. Faculty and students at SSE would like to contribute in achieving and exceeding the goals set out in the National Solar Mission.

A. Through DASA: Please refer the website https://www.dasanit.org/. The per semester Academic Tuition fees for Foreign National is US $ 2,000. SAARC and African Nationals and CIWG Category (Under DASA)* students would be given scholarship upto Domestic Student's Fee Structure. All applicants would have to pay non-refundable registration fee of US $300 to DASA 2016 while filling online application. B. PDPU International Admission Policy: A bachelor’s degree in respective Engineering field with Minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent from a University recognized by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi; with English as medium of instruction. Merit list will be prepared accordingly. SAARC and African Nationals and CIWG Category (Under DASA)* students would be given scholarship upto Domestic Student's Fee Structure. As per DASA Admission Policy, Confirmation of Admission through PDPU International Admission Policy will be only after the 1st round of DASA seat allotment.
