B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) - Chemical Engineering

ABOUT CHEMICAL ENGINEERING Whenever new fields of technology are developed they will involve atoms and molecules. Those will have to be manipulated on a large scale, and that will mean that chemical engineering will be involved-inevitably – Isaac Asimov (1988). Chemical engineering involves with the industrial processes in which raw materials are changed or separated into useful product. Chemical engineers are very well known in the field of equipment design, building process conditions and optimization of process conditions. Recent development of mathematical tools and different software gives deeper insight to complex chemical engineering processes. Apart from energy operations today’s chemical engineers are achieving new developments in medicine, biotechnology, microelectronics, advanced materials, energy, consumer products, manufacturing, and environmental solutions. None the less chemical engineering-trained entrepreneurs are making their place as CEOs of leading global businesses as DuPont, Intel, General Electric, Dow Chemical, Exxon, BASF, etc. OBJECTIVE "School of Technology intends to focus on technological education, research and service that anticipates, and meets, the need of tomorrow’s world. It is expected that engineering graduates from School of Technology will care about issues that technology can make difference whether these issues are health, security, economic well-being or sustainability of world and values." Mission of department of chemical engineering are: To impart effective academic program that provide comprehensive exposure to fundamentals and to applied industrial concepts. To generate research resource and new ideas that have a significant impact on industrial practice and contribute to the fundamentals of Chemical Engineering. To become a centre for Knowledge Sharing which will enforce process industries to collaborate with the department To promote active participation of our department in determining the technological perspective for social, economical, and environmental issues facing around the world. HISTORY Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 2011 with undergraduate programme in chemical engineering. In the initial years of the newly established department emphasis was given on developing the undergraduate curriculum and laboratories. Now department has well established course structure and well developed laboratories for undergraduate students. Courses are designed by board of studies in such a fashion that provide students to think beyond the class room teaching and make them able to solve open ended problem of real situation. Department is also evolving in the recent areas of research and developments and generating facilities for R&D. Department has highly dedicated faculty members with considerable teaching, industrial and research experience. Faculty members along with research scholar and undergraduate students are setting up a trend to build a strong alliance with the academia as well as industry by organizing different workshops and seminars. The department has its privilege to be located in Gujarat, ‘Petro Capital’ and chemical hub of the country. Department has collaboration with different establishment and chemical industries of this region, bringing forth umpteen prospects on both, the industrial and academic strata. Our students are getting benefit of interacting with these chemical companies and get connected through summer internships and regular plant visits to industries.
